The
Course With Character
The rolling fairways,
strategically placed bunkers, natural wetlands and undulating putting surfaces,
make Sycamore Creek Golf Course a delightful challenge for players of all ability. The
course is a signature Michael Hurdzan design, with no two holes the
same. Not
an especially long course, pinpoint shot-making and golf course management
skills are a must to master this course. Verdant fairways, manageable roughs,
manicured greens, and glistening bunkers are the norm, not the exception.
As described by Dr. Hurdzan, "we encourage the use of multiple tees, wide landing zones, offset angles
of play and forgiveness or containment for errant shots of the less skilled, but a demanding array of risk and reward shot values for competitive golfers. We design greens which are sensitive to the approach shots of all golfers, which drain well and make skillful putting a reasonable part of the
game."
Fantastic Green Conditions
Sycamore Creek is consistently ranked by
local golfers as having the finest public course turf conditions in the
Central Virginia area. Naturally fed by an abundance of lakes,
creeks and fresh water springs, the Bermuda fairways and bent grass greens
are lush ("40 shades of green") and a joy to play. We are
one of a handful of area courses (public and
private) that fertilizes and overseeds in the
winter. The proof is in early spring when
our greens are actually green and not
brown. Working
365 days a year, we believe our talented grounds keeping crew is among the
best in the country, and time and time again, our well-conditioned greens
prove it. Recently, the Richmond Times Dispatch voted
us "Best Greens" in Richmond.
Golf Capital of the Commonwealth of
Virginia
Sycamore Creek Golf Course is located in
the prestigious Manakin-Sabot area in the heart of Goochland County's
horse country (the wealthiest county in the United States1). Surrounded by
large estates, farms, and private hunt clubs, Manakin-Sabot is also home
to the highest concentration of elite golf courses in Virginia
including Kinloch Country Club (Golf Digest's #1 course in Virginia, Golfweek's
#9 in the United States), the Country Club of Virginia's James River
course (Golf Digest's #7 in Virginia), Hermitage Country Club (Golf
Digest's #9 in Virginia), Richmond Country Club, and, of course,
Sycamore Creek. Unlike these other member-only clubs, Sycamore is the only
course on this golf trail open to the public. That is why Golf
Digest recently named us a "Best Places
to Play 2008-2009." Country Club quality golf at daily fee prices!
Savvy Richmonders looking for the area's best golf course value (more bang for
the buck) tend to
play here.
Convenient to Anywhere in the Richmond-Petersburg Area
No matter, if you live or work in
Henrico, Chesterfield, Richmond, Hanover, or Goochland County, Sycamore
Creek is conveniently located minutes from the I-64, I-295/95, and 288
interchanges, just 5 minutes from Short Pump Town Center, 10 minutes from
Innsbrook Office Park and 20 minutes from downtown Richmond (far West End
Richmond, get
directions). We are the closest golf course to Short Pump (quick
drive down 250/Broad St). With the new route 288, Sycamore has become an
extremely convenient option for golfers who live or work in the growing
communities in western Chesterfield County (Midlothian, Woodlake,
Brandermill, Swift Creek Reservoir, etc) and Powhattan. Even
Charlottesville-based golfers only have a short 50 minute drive to play
one of Greater Richmond's best public golf courses.
